Crusaders Overpower Cards in Landmark
CUA ends the season 6-10
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic University men's soccer squad finished its season on Saturday with a 5-0 loss to the Susquehanna Crusaders (9-6-2). The Cardinals finish the season 6-10 and 2-5 in the Landmark Conference. In Head Coach Travis Beauchamp's first season he guided the Cards to three more wins than last season showing a bright future for CUA.
The Crusaders went ahead early and never allowed CUA to get into the flow of the game. Rhyan Nelson scored back to back goals three minutes apart not even ten minutes in to put the Cardinals in a hole. Just two minutes later Jim Robertiello fired one past keeper Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) to make it three. From that point on the Cards worked their way back into the offense but never found the back of the net. Robertiello scored another before the break and Malek Giet notched the fifth and final goal in the 75th minute.
Despite the scoring deficit, the Cards played the Crusaders fairly evenly with 12 shots to their 16. CUA also took three corner kicks while Susquehanna had just two. Daly was given the loss with six saves for the day while B.J. Merriam took the win and had a handful of stops.
The Cardinals finish the season 6-10 and will lose six seniors to graduation but boast a solid young core who can continue to improve under Beauchamp's leadership.
