Cardinals Sting Hornets 2-0
Schettino posts first shutout of the season
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's soccer squad (3-2) continued their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over the Shenandoah Hornets (1-6) Wednesday afternoon in Winchester, Va. After a scoreless first half, CUA found the back of the net twice in the second to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Tim McAneny (Mount Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) was credited with CUA's first goal as well as the game winner off of his shot at In the 66th minute. The sophomore defender found the back of the net off of a pass from Adrian Davis (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) to make the score 1-0. The Cardinal defense managed to hold on for the remainder of the game and in the 89th minute, Brian Pappas (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) put away an unassisted score to pad the CUA lead and make the final 2-0 in favor of the Cardinals.
Joe Schettino (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) got the start and the win for CUA with two saves on the afternoon, Brian Garretson took the loss for the Hornets with five saves. Both teams posted nine shots for the game and Shenandoah held the 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
CUA play at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
