HSC Downs CUA 3-1
HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. - It was a tough day for the Catholic University men's soccer team (3-3) as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Hampden Sydney College Tigers (2-4) Saturday afternoon. Rough play resulted in a number of cards passed out to both squads as the CUA offense could get nothing going in the melee.
The Tigers put two scores on the board early hitting goals in both the sixth and eighth minute. Down two with a majority of the game still ahead of them, CUA regrouped and took shots but couldn't find the back of the net. At the break the score was still 2-0 and HSC held a slight 7-4 advantage in shots.
The Tigers scored again midway through the second as Eamon Penland hit his first goal of the year off of an assist from Will Robertson. As the game began to intensify, CUA took shots and finally connected in the 86th minute when Adrian Davis (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) connected on CUA's lone goal of the contest.
Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) was dealt the 3-1 loss despite four saves for the game. John Robert Plyler had the win for HSC with six saves. CUA was outshot 17-11 and had just one corner kick to Hampden Sydey's four.
CUA will host its first home contest of 2007 on Wednesday with a game versus Marymount at the Upper Fields. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
