Pappas' Hat Trick Helps Cards to 9-0
Cardinals beat cross-town rival Bison
WASHINGTON- Brian Pappas (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) notched a hat trick to lead the Catholic University men's soccer squad to a 9-0 victory over the Gallaudet Bison Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C. Freshman Justin Brennan (Riverdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) added two goals for the Cardinals who had six different players score in the ninety minutes. With the win the Cardinals improve to 4-5 for the season while the Bison stay winless at 0-9.
Pappas' three goals led the squad and Brennan was the other Cardinal with multiple scores. Also accumluating points were sophomores Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) and Edward Dawson (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) as well as senior Owen Thomas (Albany, N.H./Kennett) who notched a goal each. Kevin Duffy (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) got into the books with a goal and an assist for the game.
The Cardinals dominated offensive play outshooting the Bison 21-2 and taking six corner kicks to their one. With just two shots and none on goal the neither Joe Schettino (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow)or Thomas O'Leary (Leominster, Mass./Leominster)tallied a save after playing 45 minutes each, Schettino got the win for CUA. David Owens took the loss for Gallaudet and had 12 saves in his ninety minutes.
CUA will continue Landmark Conference play this Saturday as they host Juniata at the DuFour Center Upper Fields in the second game of a soccer doubleheader with the women's squad. The women will play at 1 p.m., with the men following at 3:30 p.m.
