Cardinals Fly Past Eagles 2-1
Beauchamp gets first Landmark Conference win
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's soccer squad (5-5, 1-1 Landmark) improved to .500 for the season and in the Landmark Conference Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over the Juniata College Eagles (3-6, 1-1 Landmark). After a scoreless first half the Cardinal offense turned it on in the second with ten shots resulting in two goals for the win.
From the start it was a physical game as neither team could get into much of a flow due to three yellow cards in the first half alone. While CUA controlled the offense for much of the game, the team missed the net on a number of solids attempts. Finally in the 62nd minute sophomore Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) received the ball on the left side and split the defense before firing past keeper Joe Kohler to make the score 1-0.
The Cardinal lead was short-lived, however, as the Eagles came right back six minutes later with a score of their own. Fred McNeal hit a short cross into the box and Brandon Grim got up for the header to tie it up at one. CUA had their chances and in the 75th minute, another connected when Adrian Davis (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) found Kevin Duffy (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) on the left side who slid it into the goal for the 2-1 game winner.
CUA held a 18-9 advantage in shots as well as 6-3 in corner kicks. Joe Schettino (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) picked up the win for the Cardinals with two saves while Kohler received the loss despite six saves for the game.
The Cards will have the week off before traveling to Scranton for another conference game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
