Cards Get Past Yellow Jackets 3-2
Brady named to all-tournament squad
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Catholic University men's soccer team (2-2) bounced back at the Virginia Wesleyan Marlin Classic Sunday with a 3-2 victory over the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets (2-2) to finish the tourney 1-1. Sophomore forward Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) was named to the all-tournament squad for his performance over the weekend.
Brady struck midway through the first half with an unassisted shot up the middle that made it through the defense to make it 1-0. The Cardinals D stepped it up and kept the Yellow Jackets scoreless to give CUA a one-goal advantage at the half.
RMC evened the score early in the second off of a corner kick but CUA had an answer. In the 61st minute Owen Thomas (Albany, N.H./Kennett) found a Brian Pappas (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) cross at his foot which he was able to covert to make the go ahead goal. Twenty minutes later Brady crossed it from the right to Kevin Duffy (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) who made the score 3-1 and gave CUA some breathing room. RMC scored once more but it wasn't enough as the Cards went on to win 3-2.
The Cardinals outshot the Yellow Jackets 16-14 and had eight corner kicks to RMC's three. Cardinal goalkeeper Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) was awarded the win after saving four shots and Colin Royster was credited with the loss and a pair of saves.
The Cards will travel to Shenandoah this Wednesday to take on the Hornets at 2 p.m.
