Men's Soccer Reaches ECAC Finals

Men's Soccer Reaches ECAC Finals

November 15, 2008

WILKES BARRE, PA-- Men's Soccer recorded a 3-2 double overtime victory over Frostburg State today as the Cardinals scored in the 102nd minute and advanced to the ECAC finals.

Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) scored two goals, including the game winner, in the second extra session.  Brady opened the scoring early with a ball just under the crossbar tucked into the right corner in only the 5th minute of play.

The Cardinals then set the offensive tone throughout the first half grabbing a few more chances and a second goal in the 12th minute off the foot of Brian White (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny).  White headed the ball off the body of the goalie and into the net to give the Cardinals a two goal lead.

Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) was only tested twice in the first half, and made both saves.  In the second half, however, Frostburg unleashed 11 shots, including two that got past the CUA keeper.

Both Frostburg goals came off corner kicks that bounced out in front of the net and were pounded home from about 12 yards.  Jason King, and Sean Jones grabbed the two Frostburg goals.

The swirling wind and rain played a factor in today's game, as sloppy conditions added a second opponent for both teams.  In the overtime periods CUA manged two shots to the Frostburg one.

As the second overtime period began, CUA took control and Kevin Duffy (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) found Brady breaking past the Frostburg defenders.  Beating the final defender on a bounce, Brady used his excellent ball handling skills and beat the keeper 1v1 and secured the ECAC semifinal victory and a trip to the ECAC championship game.

CUA will return to action Sunday, November 16th, at 1 p.m. as the Cardinals will face the hosts, King's College, for the ECAC Championship.
