Men's Soccer Falls in ECAC Championship
November 17, 2008
WILKES BARRE, PA-- Even with 15 shots to their opponent's five, the Cardinals fell just short on Sunday against King College in a 2-1 loss in the ECAC Championship game.
Brian Maher (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) started the scoring just before the half as he took a pass on the sideline, then beat two defender's before finding the back of the net.
King's responded quickly as Cameron Audette took a pass from Dan Carle and beat Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) less than two minutes later.
After the break, CUA took advantage of the wind with five corner kicks but failed to convert on some excellent chances. The Cardinals had several chances in the second half, but none were closer than when the ball was driven across the goal and then struck toward the net. A King's defender made the save off the line.
Billy Elliot chipped the ball over the wall on a free kick and found the back of the net in the 70th minute to secure the win for King's College.
The 2008 CUA men's soccer team finished the season with a 14-7 record, the best in school history.
