WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America captured the Randolph-Macon College Tournament Championship in their non-conference win over Randolph Sunday afternoon. With the win, the team advances to 2-0-0 on the year.
The Championship game was a energy-charged battle between two hungry teams. CUA's Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) recorded the first goal of the afternoon off of a free kick, but the lead was short lived. The Wildcats quickly answered back with a goal of their own to tie up the match. The teams would be deadlocked at 1-1 for the remainder of the period.
The Cardinals once again began the second half with a goal to give them the advantage, this time off a Brady pass to sophomore midfielder Kevin Duffy. CUA's lead survived throughout the majority of the half, but a Wildcat goal at the 86 minute mark forced the teams into overtime. It was then that Duffy scored his second goal of the afternoon, assisted by Austin Costeira (Summit, N.J./Summit). The Cardinals defeated the Wildcats by a score of 3-2.
Earning All-Tournament Team honors for CUA were Brady, Duffy, and Brian White. The team is back in action on Friday, September 5th at Richard Stockton. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
