Men's Soccer Downs Shenandoah
WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America's men's soccer team defeated Shenandoah Thursday afternoon by a score of 2-1, improving their record to 4-1 on the year. Junior Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) tallied his third goal and second assist of the season, while teammate Brian Pappas (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) added his first goal on the year.
The Hornets grabbed an early lead, converting their only shot of the night into a goal at the 22 minute mark. From that point on, CUA's attack dominated the first half, as the squad recorded nine shots to Shenandoah's one. Brady finally found the back of the net with just two minutes left in the first, and the unassisted goal put the game at a 1-1 deadlock going into halftime.
CUA's offense came out gunning in the second half. The Cardinals tallied an additional 7 shots, while their stifling defensive pressure kept their opponent at bay. Catholic University finally captured the lead at the 62 minute mark, as Pappas drilled the game winning goal, assisted by Brady.
The Cardinals will look to continue their winning ways with a game at Hampden- Sydney on Saturday, September 13th. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
