Cards Continue Win Streak
WASHINGTON- Matt Brady's (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) goal with just over 7 minutes left in the second half gave Catholic University (6-1) the edge over visiting Merchant Marine Academy in an emotionally charged match-up Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinal offense immediately took charge of the game, as Brady recorded the first goal at the six minute mark. CUA furthered their lead with beautiful header by sophomore Kevin Duffy (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace), assisted by Michael DiMarco (Vorhees, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep). The Cards continued to stifle their opponents on the defensive end, holding them scoreless for the entire first half.
Back-to-back goals by Merchant Marine forward Kyle Luetjen put the Cards in a 2-2 draw with the Marlins. It looked as though the teams would be forced into an overtime period when Brady, weaving between Marlin defenders, scored his second goal of the evening, giving the Cardinals the 3-2 advantage.
CUA out-shot the Marlins 16-13 in the win, and GK Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) tallied five saves.
The Cards face non-conference opponent next Tuesday, as they travel to St. Mary's for a 4 p.m., contest.
