Men's Soccer Tops Shenandoah, 2-1
WINCHESTER, Va.-- Kevin Duffy and Nick Sylvester each scored goals tonight as the CUA men's soccer team improved to 3-1 on the season and defeated Shenandoah on the road, 2-1.
Duffy scored only 13 minutes into the contest but Shenandoah would answer in the 36th minute with a goal of its own. The Hornets goal was scored by Adam Aldinger off a pass from Karim Kamara.
The score remained tied at the break and for much of the second half. Nick Sylvester blasted a shot from beyond the box past the Hornet keeper in the 85th minute to give the Cardinals the final lead of the contest.
Shenandoah's Aldinger had several chances throughout the match, including a pair of breakaways. Thomas O'Leary made crucial saves for the Cardinals and totalled four in the contest. The Hornets outshot CUA 13-7, but the Cardinals led in corner kicks and saves. Shenandoah also out fouled CUA 15-6.
CUA will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 12 p.m. as the Cardinals travel to Methodist for a weekend tournament. Their first opponent will be Eastern Mennonite on Saturday before facing the hosts on Sunday at noon.
