Cardinals Cruise Past EMU

Harrisonburg, Va.- CUA's men's soccer team earned a decisive victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Eastern Mennonite University 2-0 in game one of the Methodist College Tournament. With the win, the Cards improve to 4-1 on the year.
Catholic University outshot their opponent 24-9 in the contest, but neither team was able to find the back of the net until the second period. Kevin Duffy (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) broke the tie just seven minutes into the half, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.
The Cardinals distanced themselves further from the Royals with a Matt Brady (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) goal at the 77 minute mark. CUA's tenacious defensive efforts, led by defenders Mike Brennan, Hal Cogan, Pete Wawrzusin and Tim McAneny and goal tender Quin Daly held EMU scoreless for the entire 90 minute contest. Daly collected three saves on the night.
CUA will return to action September 13, 2009 to play host Methodist College in game two of the tournament. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
