Men's Soccer Drops Methodist, 1-0
Fayetteville, N.Car.-- Scoring his seventh goal of the season, Matt Brady helped lead the CUA men's soccer team (5-1) to a 1-0 victory over tournament hosts Methodist (1-5) on the road Sunday.
Brian Pappas led the CUA attack with six shots while Brian Maher added three shots of his own, but Matt Brady's seventh goal of the season proved to be all the Cardinals would need to secure their fifth victory of the young 2009 campaign.
Capitalizing on a mistake by Methodist early in the second half, Brady found himself with the ball after a mis-clear by the defense and drove the ball to the far post past the keeper.
CUA's Quinn Daly made seven saves on 13 shots for the shutout while Methodist's Kyle Beach managed six saves.
The Cardinals dominated nearly every stat, outshooting the hosts 16-13 and earning a 5-0 edge in corners.
CUA will return to action on Sept. 19 against Mary Washington at the CUA soccer fields. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
