Men's Soccer battles Drew, Picks Up 2-0 Win
WASHINGTON-- Matt Brady started the offensive attack early, scoring in the 2nd minute of the contest as CUA improved to 12-3-1 and 4-1-1 in the Landmark Conference with a 2-0 win over Drew University on Sunday.
David Brigandi, the Rangers keeper, kept the visitors in the game making six saves in the contest. The CUA barrage unleashed 13 shots in the contest, with eight of them on target. Of the five that missed the mark two hit the post and two others sailed just wide or high of the post/bar.
Nick Sylvester earned to assists in the match finding Brady for the games first goal in the 2nd minute and then finding Tyler Bills in the 18th to give the Cardinals some insurance. Sylvester made a sweeping cross from the left side, finding Brady battling defenders just in front of the net. Brady then chipped the ball off the keepers outstretched hands and the ball found its way into the net on a bounce. Sylvester then kept the offensive attack going finding Bills in front of the net where he finished with a driving shot to the lower left corner.
Drew's best offensive chance came last in the game as Nate Papperman found himself with the ball just outside the net and on a quick turn and kick he put the ball on net. Quinn Daly, who made only one other save in the contest, made an instant reaction reach above his head and stopped the ball from crossing the line.
With the win the Cardinals have secured a playoff berth. However, their seed is still yet to be determined. CUA will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 27 as Wesley will travel to Washington, D.C., to take on the Cardinals. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
