Cardinals Surge Past Wesley, 1-0
WASHINGTON- A late goal by Catholic University junior Tyler Bills (Fountainville, Pa./Central Bucks East) proved to be the deciding factor in Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Wesley College. The Cardinals now stand at 13-3-1 on the year, 4-1-1 in the Landmark Conference. Wesley drops to 10-8 on the year.
CUA out-shot Wesley 9-7 throughout the game, and finished with six more corner opportunities. Cardinal goalie Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./ St. Augustine) earned his fifth shut out of the year, collecting two saves in the win.
The Cards and Wolverines spent the first half in a 0-0 deadlock, as neither team could find any sort of offensive momentum. CUA finally hit their stride midway through the second period. Sophomore Brian Maher (Westfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) hit Bills streaking up the middle of the field, who blasted the ball past Wesley goalie Nick Talarico. The goal would stand as the game winner, as the Cardinals flew to a 1-0 victory.
The squad sits in third place in the Landmark Conference, and will look to further improve their record on Sunday, November 1st, as they host Moravian College at 3:00 p.m.
