Men's Soccer Tops St. Mary's (Md.), 2-0
WASHINGTON-- Kevin Duffy and Mike Brennan each scored today as the CUA men's soccer team topped St. Mary's, 2-0.
Matt Grady led the Seahawk attack with three shots but Thomas O'Leary made four saves for the Cardinals and earned the shutout.
Matt Hofrichter found Duffy cutting to the front of the net in the 15th minute and put a seemingly laser-driven pass through traffic to Duffy's foot. Duffy then blasted the ball just inside the left post for the first goal of the contest. CUA led at the break 1-0.
In the 52nd minute Brennan stole a misplayed ball by the St. Mary's defense and drove the ball of the bottom of the crossbar and into the net to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
CUA gave up 10 shots in the contest but diving saves by O'Leary kept the Seahawk offense in check.
The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10:45 a.m. on the road at Merchant Marine.
