CUA falls to No. 20 Salisbury in season opener on the road
SALISBURY, Md. – The Catholic University men’s
soccer team fell to No. 20 Salisbury on Wednesday by a score of 5-0
in the 2010 season opener. CUA was outshot 19-7 for the game
and had three corner kicks to the Seagulls’ seven.
Following a scoreless first 25 minutes the Seagulls scored twice
before halftime to open up a 2-0 lead at intermission. Ben
DeLisle found the back of the net first at the 25:11 mark off a
feed from Dave Corrigan and Ian Wilson then put the home team in
front by two with his score 16 minutes later.
In the second half Dave Corrigan, Mike Napolitano and Phil
Bucheimer scored for Salisbury as it won the opener on a hot and
sunny afternoon.
In goal for CUA Quinny Daly stopped eight shots in 90 minutes of
action, while Brandon Mumby got the start for Salisbury and played
70 minutes before giving way to John Vnenchak.
CUA will return to action this weekend with a pair of games at the
Johns Hopkins Tournament. First up for the Cardinals will be
a match versus Penn State-Altoona on Saturday, September 4, which
will get underway at 4:00.
