CUA tabbed conference favorite in preseason poll
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men’s soccer program
was selected first in the Landmark Conference preseason poll, it
was announced Tuesday. The Cardinals received 89 points in the
poll, which is voted on by the men’s soccer head coaches and
sports information directors of the institutions in the Landmark
Conference.
The Cardinals won their first ever Landmark Conference championship
in 2009 and finished the season with a record of 16-4-1 overall and
5-1-1 in the Landmark Conference. The team also qualified for
the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.
The Cardinals return two of their three top goal scores from the
2009 campaign in seniors Kevin Duffy and Tyler Bills. Senior
goalkeeper Quinn Daly was named First-team All-Conference after
recording six shutouts in 2009.
The Cardinals were followed in the poll by The United States
Merchant Marine Academy (78 pts), The University of Scranton (76
pts) and Drew University (69 pts).
CUA men’s soccer season begins on Wednesday, September, 1st
at Salisbury University at 4:00 pm.
