Cardinals suffer first loss of 2011-12 to Division I Loyola (Md.)
WASHINGTON - CUA suffered it first loss of the 2011-12 academic
year on Wednesday, falling to Division I Loyola (Md.) 9-0 at the
CUA Tennis Courts. The loss is the Cardinals first since
April 26, 2011.
CUA’s Cassian Utrie dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Keyan
Sanai at first singles, while Jean Paul Roman was upended by Pierce
Norton 7-6, 6-2 at the second flight.
At third singles, Brian Bradley was defeated by Kevin Zingler 6-2,
6-1 and at fourth singles, Loyola’s Bobby Gorczakowski
upended Joe Peters 6-2, 6-4.
Rounding out the singles competition were Connor Lisco, who
defeated CUA’s Kyle Kramer 6-1, 6-0 and Harrison Kunkel, who
upended Schuyler Hayward 6-0, 6-4 at the sixth flight.
At first doubles, Norton and Zingler came out on top 8-5 vs. Utrie
and Roman. At second doubles, Sanai and Gorczakowski won an
8-3 decision against Peters and Kramer.
Connor and Kunkel then defeated CUA’s Bradley and Hayward
8-2 at the third flight.
The Cardinals open their 2012 Landmark Conference schedule this
weekend when CUA faces Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.
