Cardinals improve to 11-1 with 8-1 win over USMMA
WASHINGTON – CUA won its second match in as many days on Sunday, downing Merchant Marine Academy 8-1. The Cardinals won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches to notch their 11th win of the year.
In singles action, USMMA's Jeff Gulitus downed Cassiant Utrie 6-3, 7-5 at the first flight, but that wound up being the Mariners' lone point of the afternoon.
Jean Paul Roman defeated Timothy Buxton 6-0, 6-0 at the second flight and Joe Peters picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Victor Guettlein at the third flight.
At fourth singles, Jason Quisberth picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Christian Miller and Kyle Kramer downed Moana Kawatachi 6-0, 6-2 at the fifth flight.
Joe Triity closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of James Karas at sixth singles.
In doubles, Utrie and Roman downed Gulitus and Guettlein 8-1 at the first flight, while Peters and Kramer earned an 8-1 victory over Buxton and Derek Acuno at the second flight.
Quisberth and Bradley closed things out with an 8-1 defeat of Kawatachi and Karas at third doubles.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday, April 5 when CUA travels to Pennsylvania for a noon showdown with Scranton.
