Cardinals clinch spot in postseason after defeating Juniata 6-3

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – CUA clinched a berth in next week's Landmark Conference Tournament with a 6-3 win at Juniata on Saturday afternoon. After dropping their last two matches, the Cardinals bounced back with their 12th win of the season, receiving singles wins from Brian Bradley, Cassian Utrie, Kyle Kramer, Schuyler Hayward and Jason Quisberth. Hayward and Quisberth teamed up to also win the 3rd doubles point.

In doubles competition, Hayward and Quisberth defeated Michael Lifshitz and Tucker Good 8-5 at the 3rd flight.

Bradley and Utrie dropped an 8-4 decision to Justin Wisniewski and Brice Morey at 1st doubles, while Kramer and Joe Peters were upended 9-7 at the 2nd flight.

In singles play, Bradley earned a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Wisniewski at the 1st flight, while Utrie followed with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win at 2nd singles.

Kramer defeated Brian Gregory 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at 3rd singles and Hayward picked up a 7-6, 6-4 win over Lifshitz at the 5th flight.

Quisberth downed Good 6-2, 6-0 at the 6th flight, while Peters dropped a 7-5, 7-6 decision to Morey at 4th singles.

CUA will now wait and see what happens in Sunday's match between Scranton and Goucher. Should Scranton lose, CUA will host the Royals in a tournament semifinal match. If the Royals prevail, the Cardinals will travel to face Drew.

The tournament gets underway on Wednesday, April 24 with the championship match slated for April 27.
