CUA falls to Randolph-Macon 5-3

WASHINGTON – The Cardinals fell to Randolph-Macon by a score of 5-3 on Monday afternoon. Schuyler Hayward earned a win in singles play for CUA, while Kyle Kramer and Joe Peters, along with Cassian Utrie and Jason Quisberth, teamed up for wins at 1st and 2nd doubles, respectively. The 6th singles match was halted without finishing due to darkness.

Hayward earned a win at the 5th singles position, taking down Jody Cox 6-1, 6-2.

At 6th singles, Joe Trinity dropped the first set to Dylan Scott 6-4, before taking a 5-1 lead in the second set, only to see the match called early.

Utrie fell to Connor Hoerr 7-6, 7-5 at 1st singles, while Kramer was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Michael Baxter at 2nd doubles.

At 3rd doubles, RMC's John Adam defeated Peters 7-6, 7-5, and Quisberth suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Ira Usry at the 4th flight.

CUA earned two wins in doubles competition, including an 8-6 decision from Kramer and Peters at the 1st flight, and a 9-7 win by Utrie and Quisberth over Adam and Usry at the 2nd flight.

Trinity and Hayward fell to Cox and Richard Borck 8-3 at 3rd doubles.

CUA heads to Pennsylvania on Saturday to face the Juniata Eagles in the regular season finale. Start time is set for noon.

The Cardinals, Eagles and Moravian all enter this weekend with identical 4-2 records within the Landmark Conference. Seeding in next week's conference tournament is still very much up for grabs.
