Cardinals sweep Merchant Marine Academy in conference opener

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – CUA opened Landmark Conference play by sweeping Merchant Marine Academy 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals received singles wins from Brian Bradley, Kyle Kramer, Joe Peters, Schuyler Hayward, Joe Trinity and Conor Wilson, while Kramer and Peters, Bradley and Hayward, and Trinity and Wilson teamed up to win the doubles points.

At 1st singles, Bradley earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Timothy Buxton. Kramer came away with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at 2nd singles.

Peters won the 3rd singles point with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Jeremy Guettlein and Hayward was one of three Cardinals to win by way of sweep, taking down Phillip Creswell 6-0, 6-0 at the 4th flight.

Trinity and Wilson both posted 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins at 5th and 6th singles, respectively.

In doubles competition, Kramer and Peters won the 1st flight point 8-4, while Bradley and Hayward earned an 8-4 win at the 2nd flight.

Trinity and Wilson teamed up for an 8-2 victory at 3rd doubles.

CUA returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when the Cardinals travel to Pennsylvania to face Moravian. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
