WASHINGTON - After returning from their spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., The Catholic University of America men's tennis team fell to the Juniata Eagles 8-1 in their first conference match of the season. The Cards drop to a record of 3-5 for the season.
Freshman Matt Holtschneider and Junior Rocky Alhaqbani lost their number two doubles match against Logan Moore and Sho Sato. Junior Conor Wilson and sophomore Jon Purowitz started off strong with a 2-0 lead but lost at third doubles 8-3 against Bryan Gregory and Michael Lifshitz. The first flight in doubles consisted of freshman Jon Lasota and sophomore Juan Lorido who lost a hard fought match in a tiebreaker 9-8(7-5).
Lasota, Holtschneider, Alhaqbani, Wilson, and Purowitz lost tough matches of singles flights 2-6. Lorido won in a third set 2-6, 6-1, and 6-1 against 2014 rookie of the year Dean Polisena. The Cardinals seek to improve their record with the next match on Sunday, March 22nd against Susquehanna.
