Men’s Tennis Falls to Goucher 9-0

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America fell in their conference match against Goucher 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Starting in doubles, Juan Lorido and Ricky Alhaqbani lost 8-2. Freshman duo Jan Lasota and Matthew Holtschneider fought tough but fell short 8-5. Jon Purowitz and Conor Wilson also fell 8-4.

In singles action Purowitz fought tough to go into a third set tiebreaker but Goucher pulled through (6-3, 4-6, 10-5). Lorido battled injuries and eventually retired (4-6, 1-4). Lasota defeated a great player to give CUA a point (6-3, 6-2) while Holtschneider (6-2, 6-1) Alhaqbani (6-3, 6-4), Wilson (6-4, 6-1) were among the straight set losses.

The Cardinals wrap up 2015 their last conference match against Merchant Marine on Saturday, April 18.

Notes: Saturday's match will mark CUA Head Tennis Coach Marty Dowd's home match. Coach Dowd will be retiring at the end of the 2015 season after servicing CUA as the head tennis coach since 1962.
