Cardinals Edged at Merchant Marine Academy, 5-4

Great Neck, N.Y. – The Catholic University of America men's team played a thrilling Landmark Conference match at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, but were edged in the final matchup of the day, falling 5-4.

Catholic's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Juan Lorido and senior Rocky Alhaqbani played a back-and-forth affair that went 9-8 in favor of the Cards, earning the win 8-4 in the deciding game.

The Cardinals also won No. 3 doubles as the team of Matthew Holtschneider and Rob Alexander combined for an 8-3 victory. Holtschneider went on to win his No. 3 singles match, 6-4, -64.

Sophomore Jan Lasota earned a singles victory in the number two spot, defeating Alec De Ryckere, 7-6, 6-3.

Catholic returns home to the Dowd Family Tennis Courts this Saturday and Sunday for a Landmark weekend. The Cards face Susquehanna at 1 p.m., on Saturday before taking on Scranton at 11 a.m., on Sunday.
