Catholic Men’s Tennis Wins at Hood

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America men's tennis team went 1-1 this weekend with a road victory at Hood, 5-4, on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals also hosted Randolph on Saturday afternoon on the Dowd Family Courts but were edged by Randolph, 5-4.

Senior Jan Lasota was strong yet again for the Cards as he posted two wins in the top spot at Hood. Lasota won No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3, and teamed with classmate Rob Alexander to take the top doubles match, 8-3.

Alexander was also a two-time winner as he took the No. 2 singles bout, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

Rookie Frankie Fortunati joined Catholic's upperclassmen as two-time winners as he was victorious at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, and teamed with fellow freshman Eric Marcaski for the 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Catholic found itself on the wrong side of a 5-4 decision against Randolph.

Alexander capped a strong week with a 6-3, 6-1, win at No. 2, but he and Lasota were just edged in the top doubles match, 8-6.

The Cards did take the No. 3 doubles match thanks to sophomore Kyle Weber and junior Matt Pham who went over, 8-3.

Catholic wraps its 2017 schedule with a 3-3 record and will be back in action in 2018 with its annual spring break training trip to Hilton Head, S.C., in early March.
