CUA Earns #2 Seed in Landmark

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's tennis team stayed on its five-game win streak Saturday with a 9-0 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (1-14, 0-7 Landmark). With the win the Cardinals improve to 10-5 and 6-1 in the Landmark Conference. CUA has earned the #2 seed in the conference tournament with its only loss coming at the hands of the Drew University Rangers.
With wins all around, every Cardinal played a solid match. At number one singles, Andrew Kracht (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) blanked Geoffrey Lerner 6-0, 6-0. The two most hard-fought matches came at the number two and number four positions. At two, John Dillon (River Forest, Ill./Fenwick) defeated Neal Duncan 6-4, 6-2. At number four Rich Sheaffer Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) defeated Patricia Greene 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles play, the number one team of Kracht and Dillon continued their strong play with a 8-2 decision. Mike Schinella (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and Mike Reaney (River Forest, Ill./Fenwick) also won 8-2 at number two.
The Cardinals will host the opening round of the Landmark Tournament but before meeting Scranton they will have one final non-conference match against McDaniel on Sunday.
