CUA Downs Goucher
Cardinals tied for second in conference
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's tennis team defeated local-rival Goucher College (4-8, 2-3 Landmark) Wednesday at the DuFour Center. The Cardinals downed the Gophers 7-2 winning matches 1-5 in singles play. With the win CUA improves to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the Landmark Conference which places it in second in the standings.
Spots 1-4 in singles play were won handily. Andrew Kracht (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) started it off at number one with a 6-0, 6-1 win. John Dillon (River Forest, Ill./Fenwick), Mike Schinella (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and Rich Sheaffer (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) won two, three and four almost claiming the CUA sweep. Connor Donnelly (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) had to battle at number five but got the win 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, the number one team of Kracht and Dillon won 8-2. Also coming out victorious was the three team of Sheaffer and Donnelly also 8-2.
The Cardinals will travel to Susquehanna for a conference match on Saturday.
