Men's Tennis Ends Season On High Note

WASHINGTON-- The CUA men's tennis team won its last four matches, including three conference opponents (Goucher, Susquehanna, and Merchant Marine) to finish the season on an up note, 8-9 overall.
On April 16th, CUA defeated Goucher on its home courts, 9-0. No. 1 singles player John Paul Roman defeated Francisco Berrora, 6-1, 6-2. Luigi Alverado, Matthew Netardus, Connor Donnelly, Michael Reaney, and Joe Gribbin all won for the shutout.
CUA remained at home on April 17th sweeping Lancaster Bible College, again 9-0. Colin Colburn and Mike Puskar won a close 8-7 match for the No. 2 doubles point.
On April 18th the Cardinals defeated Susquehanna at home, 8-1. Joe Gribbin and Mike Pratt won a close 8-6 match at the No. 3 doubles spot, while Luigi Alverado won this 13th match of the year defeating Alex Green at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
CUA's last match came on April 25th at home against the US Merchant Marine Academy. The Cards won 8-1, after freshman No. 1 singles player Jean Paul Roman defeated John Gulibes, 6-3, 6-4.
"Roman, fighting affects of the flu, played perhaps his best match of the year against a strong opponent," said Head Coach Marty Dowd.
Luigi Alverado finished his tennis career at CUA with a come from behind three set win over Joe Butomis, 6-7 (5), 6-2 (10-3).
