Men's Tennis Competes In ITA Tournament


WASHINGTON- Two members of the Catholic University men's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Individual Championship Tournament for the Southeast Region this past weekend.

CUA's Dan Valverde started off on the right foot with two victories over Salisbury's Daniel Barnas (6-1, 7-5), and Johns Hopkins #2 seed Andrew Wang (7-5, 0-6, 6-3). Teammate Bernardo Nogales fell to Washington College's Aaron Ellison (6-3, 6-2).  

Valverde fell to Swarthmore's Zachary Kelm, (6-2, 6-4) in the round of 16. Bernardo Nogales then fell to Swarthmore's James Wieler (7-6, 6-3) in the consolation quarterfinals match.

The men's team looks forward to the remaining competition of the fall season with a dual match at Loyola(MD) University on Saturday October 10. The Cardinals currently sport a 5-0 record for the 2009-2010 season.
