Men's Tennis Sneaks Past UDC, 5-4


WASHINGTON- Following the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, the Cardinals had some Irish luck, pulling out a close 5-4 win over Division II University of D.C., on March 18.

The pairing of Mike Schinella and Mike Reaney came from behind to win the No. 2 doubles 8-4. The “Two Mikes” won seven games in a row to win the 5th set and clinch the victory.

The singles were split 3-3 with CUA winning at No. 4, 5, and 6. The squad lost at No. 1, 2, and 3 in hard fought matches. No. 1 and No. 3 both went to three sets.

Junior Joe Gribbin won in straight sets at the No. 4 position. Two freshmen playing in their first home match also won in straight sets. Rubin Tian and kyle Kramer at No. 6 both had strong showings against the Firebirds.

CUA opens their Conference play on Saturday, March 20, against a strong Moravian team.
