Men's Tennis Splits Against USMMA and York


WASHINGTON- The Cardinal tennis team split two matches over the weekend, defeating Merchant Marine 9-0, and falling to York College 5-4.

On Saturday, the Cards defeated conference rival Merchant Marine Academy 9-0. All matches were won in straight set, with Dan Valverde, Jean Paul Roman, and Kyle Kramer recording perfect 6-0, 6-0 victories. The win evened the Cards conference record to 1-1 on the season.

On Sunday, CUA lost a close 5-4 match to longtime rival York College. Valverde and Roman won a close 8-6 match over York’s No. 1 team, but the No. 2 and No. 3 double teams fell in close sets with the Spartans. Catholic split the singles with Valverde, Roman, and Kramer winning, while Schinella, Gribbin, and Reaney lost in hard fought matches.

The Cardinals will be back in action next Thursday to take on Division I Loyola at the DuFour Center.
