Cardinals earn first win of fall season with 9-0 sweep of Hood
WASHINGTON – The Cardinals earned their first win of the
2010 fall season on Saturday with a 9-0 win over Hood at the CUA
Tennis Courts. Brian Bradley and Joe Gribbin swept their
respective matches at fifth and sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0. In
doubles action, Bradley and Jean Paul Roman won 8-0 at the second
Bernardo Nogales got things rolling for CUA with a 6-4, 6-4 win at first singles and Cassian Utrie followed up with a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles. Joe Peters then downed Andrew Blowe 6-3, 6-1 at the third flight and Roman made it four straight with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles.
Bradley and Gribbin then closed out singles play with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories.
In doubles action, Utrie and Peters got CUA off to a strong start with a 9-7 win at the first flight and Bradley and Roman followed with an 8-0 sweep.
At the third flight, Gribbin and Jason Quisberth downed Chris Papinsick and Chad Love 8-5 to seal the win for CUA.
The Cardinals will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Maryland to take on McDaniel in a noon match.
