CUA opens spring break trip with impressive win over Marian
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – CUA opened its 2011 spring break trip
in style with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Marian (Ind.) (3-9) on
Monday. Cassian Utrie, Brian Bradley, Kyle Kramer and Joe
Gribbin captured singles wins for CUA (4-2) and Utrie and Joe
Peters won at first doubles.
Marian’s Andrew Voss downed Bernardo Nogales at first
singles 6-3, 4-6, 10-9, but Utrie came back to tie things at one
with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the second flight.
Peters fell to Will Dixon at the third flight 2-6, 6-1, 11-8, but
again the Cardinals had an answer, with Bradley earning a 6-4, 6-4
win at fourth singles.
Kramer took down Ryan Hodell 6-2, 7-6 at the fifth flight and
Gribbin finished it off with a 6-2, 6-3 win at sixth singles.
In doubles play, Utrie and Peters won 8-5 at the first flight,
while Nogales and Bradley fell at the second flight and Gribbin and
Jason Quisberth were upended at the third flight.
The Cardinals will be back on the court on Wednesday when they
take on Wittenberg.
