Men's tennis All-Landmark Conference Teams announced
WASHINGTON – Three CUA student-athletes were named to the
2011 All-Landmark Conference men’s tennis teams, announced on
Thursday. Seniors Bernardo Nogales and Joe Gribbin received
first and second team singles honors, respectively, while Nogales
and Jean Paul Roman earned second team doubles distinction.
Nogales won eight matches at first singles for CUA this past
season, including four within the Landmark Conference. He
earned wins over opponents from Hood, McDaniel, St. Mary’s,
Merchant Marine Academy, Shenandoah, Goucher, Juniata and
Susquehanna.
Nogales teamed with Roman to earn 10 wins in doubles for the
Cardinals. They were one of three doubles teams to register
at least ten victories for CUA in 2010-11. Nogales and Roman
defeated five conference opponents and went 7-3 in their final 10
matches. In singles play Roman went 7-2 overall, including a
perfect 3-0 record against conference foes.
Gribbin had a terrific senior season for CUA, going an impressive
16-1, including 16 straight victories to close out the
season. Gribbin’s lone loss of the entire academic year
came back in September vs. Division I Loyola (Md.)
and from there he went unbeaten. Gribbin was a perfect 6-0
in conference play and won 15 of his 16 singles matches at the
sixth flight. Gribbin also picked up two wins in doubles.
CUA put together a great 2010-11 season, going 14-6 overall and
5-2 within the Landmark Conference. The Cardinals earned a
spot in the conference tournament for the third time in the last
four seasons.
