Cardinals sweep past Goucher 9-0 on the road
TOWSON, Md. – The Cardinals rolled past Goucher 9-0 on Friday afternoon as CUA improves to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in the Landmark Conference. CUA swept through the singles matches with wins by Bernardo Nogales, Cassian Utrie, Joe Peters, Jean Paul Roman, Joe Gribbin and Jason Quisberth and the Cardinals finished things off with three straight doubles wins.
Nogales notched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Steve Baum at first singles and Utrie took down David Spivey 6-3, 6-2 at the second flight.
Peters kept things rolling with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at third singles and Roman earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Daniel Csete at fourth singles.
Gribbin took down Dave Hemeit 6-3, 6-0 at the fifth flight and Quisberth registered a 6-1, 6-1 win over Seth Manfield at sixth singles.
At the first doubles flight Nogales and Roman earned an 8-2 win over Baum and Billie Weiss, while Utrie and Peters notched an 8-2 victory at second doubles over Spivey and Csete.
Gribbin and Quisberth closed things out with an 8-3 win at the third flight over Brett Blackman and Hemeit.
On Sunday the Cardinals remain on the road when they head to Pennsylvania to take on Juniata in a 1 p.m. match. The match was originally slated for Saturday but got pushed back a day due to weather issues.
