SCRANTON, Pa. – CUA had a tough time with Scranton on
Tuesday afternoon and the Cardinals eventually fell to the Royals
5-1 in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Tournament.
The No. 3 Cardinals received a doubles win from Cassian Utrie and
Joe Peters at the second flight for their lone point of the
day.
In doubles play Utrie and Peters picked up an 8-6 win over Carl
Caceres and Joe Morra at the second flight, while Scranton’s
David Teres and Tim McGurrin downed Bernardo Nogales and Jean Paul
Roman 8-1 at the first flight.
At third doubles Kyle Kramer and Jason Quisberth were upended by
Bennett Kelley and Mike Pannone by a score of 8-5.
In singles action, Teres defeated Nogales 6-1, 6-0 at the first
flight, while the second and third flights did not finish.
Morra took down Roman 6-0, 6-2 at fourth singles and Jonathan
Russo earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kramer at fifth singles.
The sixth flight match between CUA’s Joe Gribbin and Pannone
did not finish.
Despite the loss on Tuesday CUA had a strong 2010-11 season,
racking up 14 wins, including five within the Landmark
Conference. The Cardinals won three more matches than last
season overall and one more conference match.
