Cardinals sweep past Mariners 9-0 in conference opener

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Cardinals opened their 2011 Landmark Conference schedule in impressive fashion on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Merchant Marine Academy.  CUA won the second through sixth singles flights by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores to improve to 7-3 this season.

Bernardo Nogales got CUA off to a good start with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-5 win at first singles and the Cardinals then reeled off five consecutive 6-0, 6-0 victories to go in front 6-0 in the match.

Next, Cassian Utrie and Joe Peters took the first doubles match 8-5 before Nogales and Jean Paul Roman won the second flight 8-0.  Kyle Kramer and Jason Quisberth closed things out with an 8-1 win at the third flight.

CUA returns to action on Monday afternoon with a 3:30 match vs. visiting Shenandoah.
