Cardinals close out trip with 6-3 win over Mount Union
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Cardinals won four of six singles
matches and two of three doubles matches and CUA closed out its
spring break trip with a 6-3 victory over Mount Union (2-6) on
Friday afternoon. Cassian Utrie, Joe Peters, Kyle Kramer and
Joe Gribbin each won singles matches for CUA (5-3).
Bernardo Nogales fell to Zach Perry at the first singles flight
6-0, 6-2, but Utrie tied things up at one with a 6-4, 6-0 win at
second singles.
Peters gave CUA another win at the third flight with a 2-6, 6-3,
10-6 victory over Patrick Yackmack, but Yasuhiro Anno outlasted
CUA’s Brian Bradley at the fourth flight 7-6, 6-3.
Kramer earned a hard-fought 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 win at the fifth flight
and Gribbin took down Drew LeGendre 6-4, 6-1 at the sixth flight
for the Cardinals fourth singles win.
In doubles action, Utrie and Peters won the first flight 9-8,
while Kramer and Jason Quisberth earned an impressive 8-1 win at
the third flight.
Nogales and Bradley were upended at the second flight 8-5, but not
before CUA had done enough to win its second match of the trip.
CUA returns to action on March 17 when the Cardinals host Dubuque
in a 3 p.m. match.
