Gribbin's 16th straight win highlights sweep of Crusaders

WASHINGTON – The Cardinals remained hot with a 9-0 sweep of Susquehanna on Thursday afternoon at the CUA Tennis Courts.  Bernardo Nogales, Cassian Utrie, Brian Bradley, Jean Paul Roman, Kyle Kramer and Joe Gribbin each won singles points for the Cardinals, with Gribbin earning his 16th consecutive victory.

Nogales got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Michael Hickey at first singles, while Utrie picked up a 7-5, 6-4 victory vs. Mats Haaland at the second flight.

Bradley kept it going with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the third flight over Jeremy Neville and Roman followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Alec Green at fourth singles.

At fifth singles Kramer earned a 6-3, 7-5 win over Bruce Osborn and Gribbin closed things out with a dramatic 2-6, 7-6, 10-7 win over Grant Uber at sixth singles.  Gribbin has not lost dating back to September and that lone loss came against Division I Loyola (Md.).

In doubles action Nogales and Roman teamed up at the first flight to down Hickey and Haaland 8-3.  Utrie and Peters then defeated Neville and Green 8-2 at the second flight and Kramer and Jason Quisberth downed Osborn and Uber 8-6 at third doubles.

The Cardinals now head into the 2011 Landmark Conference Tournament where they will begin play on Tuesday, April 26.  CUA is the No. 3 seed and will face second-seeded Scranton in Pennsylvania. Start time is 3 p.m.  The other semifinal pits top-seeded Drew vs. No. 4 seed Moravian. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, April 30.
