CUA falls to Wittenberg 5-4 in tight match in S.C.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – CUA suffered its first loss during its
spring break trip on Wednesday morning, falling to Wittenberg 5-4
in a tight match. The Cardinals received singles wins from
Kyle Kramer and Joe Gribbin at the fifth and sixth flights,
respectively, and Cassian Utrie and Joe Peters, along with Kramer
and Jason Quisberth notched wins at first and third doubles.
Bernarndo Nogales was upended 6-2, 6-0 at the first singles
flight, while Utrie fell to Tyler Strong 6-3, 6-4 at the second
flight.
Peters was beaten by Sergio Fishkin 6-1, 6-1 in third singles and
Brian Bradley dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision at the fourth flight.
Kramer registered a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 win at the fifth
flight and Gribbin followed up with a 6-7, 7-5, 10-4 victory over
Rob Lehner at sixth singles.
In doubles play Utrie and Peters notched an 8-2 victory at the
first flight and Kramer and Quisberth downed Nick Ludwig and Stuart
Zorn 8-6 at the third flight. Fisher and Strong were able to
get by Nogales and Bradley though at the second flight 8-2.
On Thursday the Cardinals will wrap up their spring break trip
with a match vs. Mount Union. Start time is scheduled for
11:30 a.m.
