Cardinals rebound from tough loss to down York 6-3
YORK, Pa. – After falling to Drew on Saturday afternoon
the Cardinals bounced back with a 6-3 win at York (9-5) on Sunday
to improve to 11-5 on the year. Cassian Utrie, Brian Bradley,
Kyle Kramer and Joe Gribbin won at singles for CUA and Jean Paul
Roman and Bernardo Nogales, along with Kramer and Jason Quisberth
earned doubles wins.
Travis Klein downed Nogales 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 at first singles but
Utrie won the second singles point by upending Colin Jones 6-3,
7-5.
York’s Philip Myers emerged victorious over Joe Peters at
third singles by a score of 6-1, 6-4 before Bradley earned a 6-0,
6-1 win over Nathaniel Hoskins at fourth singles.
At fifth singles Kramer bounced back from his first loss of the
season on Saturday with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Justin Hostetter
and Gribbin earned a 9-7 win over James Villari at the sixth
flight.
In doubles action the Spartans won the first flight as Klein and
Jones defeated Utrie and Peters 9-5.
CUA then won the final two doubles points with Roman and Nogales
taking an 8-4 match from Myers and Villari and Kramer and Quisberth
taking down Hostetter and Hoskins 8-2 at the third flight.
CUA has three regular season matches remaining, all vs. Landmark
Conference opponents with the first match set for Wednesday, April
13 at Goucher. Start time is set for 3 p.m. On
Saturday, April 16 the Cardinals will travel to face Juniata in a 1
p.m. match.
