CUA downs St. Mary's 7-2 to close out fall home schedule
WASHINGTON – The CUA men’s tennis team closed out
its 2010 fall home schedule with a 7-2 win over St. Mary’s on
Saturday. Brian Bradley scored the highlight win of the
afternoon, as he battled flu-like symptoms to come back and beat
Guy Guzzone 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles.
At first singles, Bernardo Nogales downed Thomas Hoseman by a 6-2,
7-6 score before Cassian Utrie fell at second singles, 6-4,
6-3.
Joe Peters gave CUA its second win in singles play at the third
flight with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Kyle Feeley and Jean Paul Roman
followed that up with a 6-3, 7-5 win at fourth singles.
Following Bradley’s dramatic win at the fifth flight, Joe
Gribbin closed things out for the Cardinals with a 6-0, 6-1 win at
sixth singles over Robbie Bourdon.
In doubles play Utrie and Peters earned an 8-6 win at the first
flight and Nogales and Roman defeated John Feighner and
Guzzone 8-1 at the second flight. St. Mary’s salvaged
the third doubles match as Feeley and Devin Turk earned a 9-7 win
over Bradley and Jason Quisberth.
CUA will close out its 2010 fall schedule on September 30 when the
Cardinals travel to take on York. The match is set to begin
at 3:30.
