CUA competes at Gettysburg Invite in final tune-up for champs
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – CUA had its final tune-up prior to next week's conference championships on Saturday, competing at the Gettysburg Invitational. Mike Puskar finished third in the 5000 meters and Joe Quigley posted a fourth place finish in the 400 meters to lead the Cardinal runners, while Shawn Brubaker finished fourth in the hammer to lead the field athletes.
Puskar finished the 5000 in 16:30.83, which put him in third place and Quigley crossed in a time of 51.06 seconds to finish fourth in the 400 meters. Alex Hetzel also competed in the 400, finishing in 53.28 seconds, good for 13th.
Michael Spielberger came in eighth place in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:01.64, with George Brewer coming in 17th, with a time of 2:04.96.
In the throwing events, Pete Schramm finished sixth in the shot put (12.31 meters) and Brubaker placed 12th (10.88 meters), while Brubaker took fourth in the hammer (40.02 meters) and Schramm came in 11th (31.14 meters).
The Cardinals finished with 25 points, which put them in ninth place in the team standings. Dickinson won the meet with 174 points, followed by Frostburg State (114.5), Mary Washington (104.50), Millersville (78) and Gettysburg (66) to round out the top five.
CUA will be back in action next Saturday, April 28 when the Cardinals travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the 2012 Landmark Conference championship. The two-day event wraps up on the 29th.
