Quigley's performance leads CUA at Messiah College Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Cardinals traveled to the Messiah College Invitational on Saturday and put forth a strong showing across the board.  Joe Quigley was CUA's top finisher, crossing in third place in the 800 meters, while Michael Spielberger (1500 meters) and Pete Schramm (shot put) earned top-ten finishes of their own.

Quigley raced his way to a third place showing in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.86, with Nick Pavia crossing in 23rd place, in 2:09.54.

Spielberger posted an eighth place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:15.03, while George Brewer was 13th (4:19.38), Chris Derks was 21st (4:26.60), Kyle McKenna was 30th (4:38.48), and Michael Kennedy 31st (4:42.56).

In the 200 meters, Alex Hetzel crossed in a time of 23.82 seconds, which was good for 15th place, while Christian Hibinski was 30th (24.66), and John Funk was 48th (26.88).

Hetzel then added an 11th place finish in the 400 meters, crossing in 53.15 seconds, with Hibinski crossing in 57.46 seconds, good for 22nd place.  Kian Olia finished the 5000 meters in a time of 17:23.18, which was good for 11th.

In the field events, Schramm finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 40'2 ¾" and Shawn Brubaker placed 13th with a toss of 35'11 ¼".

The Cardinals are back in action next weekend when they travel to Pennsylvania to compete at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, April 21.  Action gets underway beginning at 9 a.m.  It is CUA's final tune-up prior to the Landmark Conference championships, which are the following weekend.
