Three Cardinals earn 3rd place finishes at Messiah Invite
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Three Cardinals earned 3rd place
finishes to lead CUA at the Messiah College Invite on Saturday. Joe
Quigley, Matthias Arauco-Shapiro and Kiernan Powell were the Cards
top performers on the afternoon.
Quigley came in 3rd with a time of 1:56.72 in the 800, and Arauco-Shapiro finished 3rd in the 5000 (16:01.94).
Powell led the field athletes with a 3rd place showing in the javelin, launching a throw of 169’ 3”.
Along with Quigley, Robert Leeson placed 8th in the 800 (1:59.28), Collin Roszyk was 15th (2:04.95) and George Brewer came in 20th (2:08.71).
In the 400, Jacob Maclin finished 11th (53.10), while Alex Hetzel crossed in 14th place (53.92).
In the 1500, Michael Spielberger placed 10th with a time of 4:19.35, Lucas Milone was 15th (4:30.58) and Michael Wood came in 17th (4:31.74).
The 4x400 relay team of Arauco-Shapiro, John Funk, Dylan Gallagher and Brewer placed 4th, finishing in 3:28.81.
Shawn Brubaker came in 8th in the hammer throw, posting a throw of 141’ 6”, and 14th in the shot put, with a toss of 37’ ¼”.
CUA finished 11th in the team standings, totaling 25 points on the day, to place in front of Delaware Valley, Thaddeus Stevens and Gallaudet.
Host Messiah earned 179 points to claim the overall spot in the team standings, with Hagerstown Community College (99), Frostburg State (83), Elizabethtown (74) and Gwynedd-Mercy (73) next in line.
CUA returns to action on April 20 when the Cardinals compete at the Gettysburg Invitational. That will be CUA’s final meet before championship season gets underway.
