WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's track & field team took home third place overall, while the men finished fifth at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championship on Saturday at Susquehanna University.
MEN - John Brewer had the best finish for the Cardinals, taking second place in the 1 Mile run with a time of 4:30.57.
In the 800m run, Robert Leeson posted a sixth place finish for Catholic with a time of 2:03.27. Chris Derks crossed the finish line in 2:07.84 for 12th place.
The Cardinals took third in the 4x400m relay as Leeson, Maclin, Roszyk, and Brewer combined to run a 3:34.84 time.
Competing in just 10 of a possible 17 events, the Cardinals scored 19 points and finished fifth place overall.
WOMEN - Mary Clark got things started for Catholic, winning the second event of the day, the women's Weight Throw. Her sixth and final attempt smashed her previous five efforts as her 15.34m throw broke the Landmark record of 14.79m, set in 2011.
The trio also competed in the Shot Put as Ross took second and Clark finished third with performances of 11.57m and 11.16m, respectively. Kozlowski finished with a 9.10m throw to finished eighth.
Maria Dextra Cercos ran the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.97 seconds, and qualified for the finals where she earned a third place finish for the Cardinals. In the 60m sprint, Victoria Maue was edged out of the final round by .01 seconds, as her 8.42 second time was good for seventh.
In the relays, Cercos, Bridget Krumholz, Maue, and Danielle Caruccio posted a 1:51.54 time in the 4x200m relay, crossing the finish line in third. Jane Marrinan, Kristen Rayfield, Maria Docal, and Erin Schlegel teamed up in the distance medley and finished fifth with a time of 14:00.37. In the final women's event of the day, the 4x400m relay, Marrinan, Krumholz, Cercos, and Caruccio placed third with a time of 4:13.14.
Catholic had two runners crack the top-5 in the 400m dash as Danielle Caruccio and Bridget Krumholz finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth. Caruccio had a time of 1:01.28, just edging Krumholz at 1:02.07.
Caruccio finished fourth again in the 200m sprint. Her 27.03 time was just .04 seconds behind the third place finished from Susquehanna.
In the distance events, Catherine Kitz had the best finish for CUA, running an 11:20.77 time in the 3000m run. Rebecca Radcliffe was the top finisher in the 5000m run with a 19:44.93 time.
Collectively, CUA scored 79 points to finish in third place overall.
