Collegeville, Pa. - The Catholic University of America men's and women's track and field teams opened up their indoor track and field season on Saturday, Dec. 6 with the Bow-Tie Classic at Ursinus College.
On the women's side, Eileen McAlonan (Alloway, N.J. / Archmere Acadamy) sprinted the 200-meter dash in 28.71 to take 13th place. Danielle Caruccio's (West Milford, N.J. / DePaul Catholic) 1:23.81 time in the 500-meter dash earned her the second place finish overall. Bridget Krumholz (Smithtown, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy Academy) posted a 2:35.81 in the 800-meter run to earn 13th place, while Lauren Haynes (Somerset, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr High School) crossed the finish line with a time of 2:43.61 for 21st place.
Stephanie Taylor (Eldersburg, Md. / Christopher Newport) leaped 1.47 meters in the high jump to take seventh, while Emily Cummings (Wareham, Mass. / Wareham High School) posted a 1.37-meter jump for 18th place.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Hannah Gillis (Newton, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur), Krumholz, Caruccio, and Haynes put together a time of 4:26.96 for a sixth place finish.
On the men's side, Jacob Maclin's (University Heights, Ohio) 500-meter dash time of 1:10.24 earn him the 11th place spot, while Robert Leeson (Bethlehem, Pa. / Bethlehem Catholic) came in 18th with a 1:14.43 finish and followed by Jamil Marzouka (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.), who completed the race in 1:20.55 for 22nd place. In the 200-meter dash Peter Gartland finished in 25.57 for a 33rd place finish.
Maclin, Leeson, Marzouka, and Gartland joined efforts to finish the 4x400-meter relay in 3:50.07 for a 15th place finish.
The men's and women's track team continue the season after the Christmas Holiday when they head to Annville, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 24 for the Lebanon Valley College Invitational beginning at 9:00 a.m.
